I have the Star Wars Visual Dictionary! Its got a cross-section of a lightsaber in it! ITS POWERED BY CRYSTALS GOSH SARNIT! I'm NOT OCD!!! *Garbles*
[Actually, the cross-section clearly points out a "Diatium power cell" which is probably a fancy way of saying "space-aged battery" and the crystals are likely just used as a means of drawing out and focusing the energy (they are labeled "Focusing crystals" and "Primary crystal" respectively) So the crystals are logically more akin to modern technology's copper wire, not a battery. Just... making conversation...]
