They do have shields in Star Wars. Those two "balls" on the top of the ship are shield generators. The ships have both ray and particle shields which will keep out errant space debris as well as take direct hits from laser fire quite easily

@Japanese Ghost Uh... yea, they have shields. Those silly trekkies just don't have the technological capacity to detect said shields. I predict that the next panel would be the... uh... Trek Ship... blowing up.
